Jury, classical pianist Dr. Jacob De Hoyos is native to Artesia, New Mexico and currently
resides in New York City. Dr. De Hoyos serves as piano department chair and faculty
member of Concordia Conservatory as well as adjunct professor at Mount Saint Vincent
College. He has performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center as a chamber musician
and has also performed the Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 3 as a soloist with the Texas
Tech Symphony Orchestra. De Hoyos has won numerous awards including second
place at the Bruno Bradshaw International Piano Competition, the Janice K. Hodges
Piano Competition, the Young Artist New Mexico MTNA Piano Competition, and first
place in the Texas Tech University Concerto Competition.
Under the tutelage of pianist Tina Dahl, De Hoyos earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts in
Piano Performance and a Masters of Music from S.U.N.Y. Stony Brook University,
where he was awarded a scholarship and teaching assistantship. From 2011 to 2016 he
served as a teacher, accompanist, and chamber coach for the undergraduate Stony
Brook music department. Dr. De Hoyos also holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano
Performance and Piano Pedagogy Certificate from Texas Tech University where he
studied under Dr. Lora Deahl.
In high demand as a piano pedagogue, Dr. De Hoyos has experience teaching students
of all ages and backgrounds. His pre-college students have performed with the
Greenwich Village Orchestra and Orchestra 914, while his undergraduate students have
gone onto masters and doctoral programs of Texas Tech University, S.U.N.Y. Potsdam,
and University of South Carolina. His students have performed in Carnegie Hall, have
been accepted to music festivals in Icicle Creek, have received top marks and prize
from the Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations and prize winners of the KRB
International Chamber Competition.
